The Story of Heal Pgh
Heal Pgh has been rooted in Pittsburgh's Northside since 2009, when Amy Green opened Pittsburgh Massageworks with one goal in mind: to provide high-quality manual therapy to her neighbors and community.
Amy found her way to massage therapy at 19, drawn by a genuine desire to help people through pain and injury. Seventeen years later, that same dedication led her to pursue acupuncture, earning her Master's degree from the Won Institute of Graduate Studies in Philadelphia and becoming a Certified Sports Medicine Acupuncturist, the highest credential available in orthopedic acupuncture. She's someone who never stops studying, regularly pursuing continuing education to stay at the forefront of her field.
Ian came to massage therapy from a background as an artist, and that creative intuition has never left him. After studying at the Pittsburgh School of Massage Therapy, he found that the same attentiveness and sensitivity that guided his art translated naturally into therapeutic touch.
From 2009 to 2013, Amy ran the practice solo out of their home. Ian joined in 2013, bringing his background as an artist and massage therapist into the fold. In 2017, they made their first move into a dedicated clinic space on Western Avenue — a cozy spot they personally designed and built out, and we mean that literally. When contractors fell through just three months before opening, they rolled up their sleeves and finished the drywall, ceilings, trim, and painting themselves. Every detail of that space was a labor of love, and it showed. As the practice grew, so did their vision, and in 2025 they made the move to a significantly larger space at 1501 Preble Ave — designed once again with their clients in mind: easy parking, full ADA accessibility, and a modern environment that matches the level of care Heal Pgh has always strived to provide. The current space is an interim home while their final custom-built clinic, in the same building, is under construction — but don't let the word "interim" fool you. The fifth floor space is gorgeous, with sweeping views of the Ohio River and the Pittsburgh skyline, all framed by the industrial charm of a beautifully restored factory building that feels quintessentially Northside. In the meantime, Heal Pgh has already expanded its offerings to include red light therapy and contrast therapy — two private sauna and cold plunge suites — with more to come when the doors to the new space open.
Over the years, Amy and Ian have been joined by an incredible team of practitioners and staff who share their commitment to thoughtful, personalized care. Together they've grown the practice into what is now Heal Pgh — a name that reflects both where they are and what they're here to do. We're proud to serve the Northside community and grateful for every person who trusts us with their wellness.
